Comprehensive Privacy Policy

Effective Date and Last Updated: July 2026

At ChaosPrep ("We", "Us", "Our"), we recognize that when you use our platform to prepare for highly competitive and stressful exams, you are entrusting us with deeply personal data regarding your study habits, weaknesses, and routines. We do not take this responsibility lightly.

This extensive Privacy Policy is designed to provide you with radical transparency. It meticulously details every piece of data we collect, exactly how our real-time social systems process that data, how our AI integrations interact with your information, and the aggressive measures we employ to secure our database against theft, scraping, and unauthorized access.

1. Exhaustive Breakdown of Data Collection

We believe in the principle of data minimization—collecting only what is absolutely functionally necessary to run the ChaosPrep application. When you interact with our platform, we collect the following categories of information:

1.1 Identity and Authentication Data

We utilize Google Firebase Authentication to secure your account. When you sign in using a third-party provider (e.g., Google), we collect your basic profile information: your full name, email address, and profile picture URL. We use this exclusively to provision your unique user ID (UID). We never see, process, or store your passwords.

1.2 Core Study Logs and Usage Metrics

To provide you with tracking and analytics, we store the data you explicitly input into the ChaosPrep interface. This data is stored securely in Firebase Firestore and includes:

1.3 Device, Network, and Diagnostic Metadata

To ensure cross-device synchronization and to debug platform instability, we may temporarily log standard web metadata. This includes your browser type and version, operating system, timezone settings, and crash reports. We do not utilize invasive device fingerprinting for targeted advertising.

2. In-Depth Analysis: The AI Bot (Gemini) Integration

ChaosPrep offers experimental AI features designed to summarize notes, parse unstructured text into actionable tasks, and provide study planning logic. Our AI features are powered by third-party Large Language Models (specifically Google's Gemini API). You must understand the data implications of using these features:

2.1 What Data is Transmitted to the AI

When you explicitly invoke an AI feature, we transmit only the necessary context to the AI provider via a secure HTTPS API call. This may include the specific text you typed into the AI prompt box, or the title of a specific task you requested the AI to break down. We do not blindly upload your entire study history, personal identity information, or authentication tokens to the AI provider.

2.2 Strict Prohibition on Internal Model Training

We deeply respect your intellectual privacy. ChaosPrep does not utilize your personal study logs, private notes, or exam scores to train, fine-tune, or develop any internal proprietary AI models. Furthermore, when using enterprise-grade API tiers from providers like Google, their terms generally restrict them from using your API payload data to train their consumer-facing foundation models.

2.3 Handling of User-Provided API Keys

If the platform requires you to supply your own API key to use the AI features, that API key is saved solely within your browser's local storage (Local/Session Storage). It is transmitted directly from your browser client to the AI provider's servers. ChaosPrep never stores your API key in our backend Firestore database. If you clear your browser cache, your key is wiped.

3. In-Depth Analysis: Groups, Peers, and Real-Time Syncing

The core philosophy of ChaosPrep involves accountability through transparency. Our "Accountability Squads" and "Peer Connections" features rely on aggressive, real-time data sharing.

3.1 The Mechanics of Real-Time Broadcasts

If you choose to join a Study Group or add a Peer, you are explicitly opting-in to broadcast your study state. We use Firebase's WebSockets capabilities to push your data to connected peers within milliseconds. The data you broadcast includes:

3.2 Complete User Control and Revocation

You maintain absolute control over this social broadcast. If you feel your privacy is compromised, or you simply wish to study in 'stealth mode', you can leave a group or sever a peer connection at any time. Upon doing so, our Firestore Security Rules immediately sever the data pipeline, and your real-time status will no longer be accessible to those former peers.

4. Aggressive Defense of Data and System Security

ChaosPrep is built on a serverless architecture heavily reliant on Google's Firebase ecosystem. We utilize aggressive security postures to defend against data breaches and unauthorized scraping.

4.1 Encryption Standards

All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted in transit using industry-standard TLS (HTTPS). All data stored within our Firebase Firestore database is encrypted at rest by Google Cloud.

4.2 Draconian Firestore Security Rules

We do not rely on client-side logic for security. We deploy complex, restrictive Firebase Security Rules directly on the database layer. These rules strictly enforce that a user can only read and write documents that correspond to their cryptographically verified User ID (UID). The only exception is data explicitly flagged for group sharing, which is restricted solely to verified members of that specific group.

4.3 Anti-Scraping and Threat Mitigation

We employ automated monitoring to detect anomalous query patterns indicative of data scraping, unauthorized API consumption, or reverse engineering attempts. Any account flagged for such malicious behavior will have its access automatically and permanently revoked without warning, as outlined in our Terms and Conditions.

5. The Zero-Selling Guarantee & Third-Party Disclosure

We will never sell, rent, lease, or trade your personal data, study metrics, or contact information to advertisers, data brokers, educational institutions, or coaching centers under any circumstances.

We only share data with essential third-party service providers (like Google Firebase for hosting and database services) necessary to operate the platform. We may also disclose your information if we are legally compelled to do so by a court order, subpoena, or to protect the safety and legal rights of ChaosPrep and its users.

6. Your Absolute Rights and Data Portability

You are the sole owner of your study data. Within the ChaosPrep application settings, we provide you with tools to exercise your rights:

7. Use of Local Storage and Cookies

ChaosPrep operates predominantly as a modern Single Page Application (SPA). We minimize the use of traditional tracking cookies. Instead, we heavily utilize your browser's `localStorage` and `sessionStorage` to persist your application state, cache data for offline support, and store your local preferences (such as theme and API keys). By using the application, you consent to the storage of these local data structures on your device.

8. Policy Modifications

We reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy as we add new features or as privacy laws evolve. We will notify you of any significant material changes by displaying a prominent notice within the application or via email. Continued use of the platform following such notifications constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
